Overview
The Blogs module allows you to create, edit, publish, and manage blog posts for your travel website. Blogs are an important tool for content marketing, SEO, sharing travel tips, destination guides, and engaging with potential customers. This guide covers how to view all blogs, create new blog posts, edit existing blogs, manage blog images, and publish or unpublish content.
Accessing the Blogs Page
Navigate to: Admin → Blogs
The Blogs page displays all blog posts in a table format with the following information:
- Blog ID
- Blog Title
- Blog Sub Title
- Blog Content (truncated preview)
- Status (Published/Not Published)
- Edit action button
Understanding Blog Fields
Basic Blog Information
Title:
- Main headline of the blog post
- Should be compelling and SEO-friendly
- Example: "10 Hidden Gems in Cape Town", "Safari Photography Tips for Beginners"
Sub Title:
- Secondary headline or tagline
- Provides additional context
- Optional but recommended
- Example: "Discover local favorites beyond the tourist trail"
Blog Content:
- Main body of the blog post
- Rich text with formatting options
- Can include headings, lists, bold, italic, links, etc.
- Where your full article is written
Author:
- Name of the blog post author
- Can be individual name or "ZAP Travel Team"
- Appears as byline on published post
- Example: "Sarah Johnson", "ZAP Travel"
Source:
- Origin or reference for the blog content
- Internal tracking field
- Example: "Marketing Team", "Guest Post", "Internal"
Blog Image:
- Banner/hero image for the blog post
- Displays at top of blog when published
- High-quality image recommended (minimum 1920x1080)
- Should relate to blog content
Status (isPublished):
- Published: Blog is live and visible on website
- Not Published: Blog is draft, not visible to public
Viewing All Blogs
Blog Table
The main page displays all blog posts in a scrollable table.
Table Columns:
- ID: Unique blog identifier
- Blog Title: Main headline
- Blog Sub Title: Secondary headline
- Blog Content: Truncated preview (first ~450 characters)
- Status: Published or Not Published
- Edit Icon: Opens blog details for editing
Searching for Blogs
Use the search box to find blogs by:
- Blog Title
- Sub Title
- Blog Content
- ID
How to Search:
- Type in the "Keyword Search..." box (top right)
- Results filter instantly as you type
- Search is case-insensitive
- Searches across all text fields
- Clear search box to see all blogs
Sorting Blogs
Sortable Column:
- ID: Click ID column header to sort
- Click once: Ascending (oldest first)
- Click twice: Descending (newest first)
Creating a New Blog
Step 1: Open the Create Blog Form
- Click the "Create Blog" button (top right)
- The "Create Your Blog" dialog opens
- Form displays all required fields
Step 2: Enter Blog Information
Blog Title (Required):
- Enter compelling headline in first field
- Keep concise but descriptive
- Think about SEO and keywords
- Example: "Ultimate Guide to Kruger National Park"
Blog Sub Title (Optional):
- Enter secondary headline in text area
- Provides context or teaser
- Can be longer than title
- Example: "Everything you need to know for your first safari adventure, from best times to visit to what to pack"
Author and Source:
- Two fields side-by-side
- Author: Enter author name
- Source: Enter content source
- Both fields visible but not marked required
Blog Content (Required):
- Rich text editor with formatting toolbar
- Editor height: 320px
- Write full blog post content here
Using the Rich Text Editor:
- Bold: Highlight text and click B button
- Italic: Highlight text and click I button
- Underline: Highlight text and click U button
- Headings: Use dropdown to select H1, H2, H3, etc.
- Lists: Create bulleted or numbered lists
- Alignment: Left, center, right, justify
- Links: Highlight text, click link icon, enter URL
- Images: Insert images inline (if supported)
- Undo/Redo: Reverse or repeat actions
Content Writing Tips:
- Start with engaging introduction
- Use subheadings to break up content
- Include relevant keywords naturally
- Keep paragraphs short (3-4 sentences)
- Add calls-to-action where appropriate
- Proofread before submitting
Step 3: Submit
- Review all entered information
- Ensure title is compelling
- Verify content is complete and formatted
- Click Submit button at bottom
- Dialog closes
- New blog appears in blogs table with status "Not Published"
- Blog is created as draft
Note: New blogs are created as drafts (Not Published). You must edit the blog to add an image and publish it.
Editing an Existing Blog
Opening Blog Details
- Locate blog in the table
- Click the edit icon (pen) in rightmost column
- Blog details page opens
- Page displays banner image area and all blog fields
Blog Details Page Layout
The page is divided into sections:
Top Section:
- Large banner/hero image area (or "No Blog Image" if not uploaded)
- Blog title overlaid on banner image
- Gradient overlay for text readability
- Back button to return to blogs list
Top Right Controls:
- Publish Toggle Switch: Turn blog publishing on/off
- Status Text: Shows "Published" or "Unpublished"
Main Content Area (Left Side):
- Author and Source fields (top row)
- Title and Sub Title fields
- Blog Content rich text editor
Sidebar (Right Side):
- Preview button
- Save button
Editing Blog Information
Author and Source:
- Two fields in top row
- Click in field and modify value
- Changes are tracked
Title and Sub Title:
- Title: Edit in first field (3-column width)
- Sub Title: Edit in second field (2-column width)
- Both are editable text inputs
- Changes are tracked
Blog Content:
- Full rich text editor
- Editor height: 400px (larger than create form)
- Click in editor area to modify
- Use formatting toolbar
- Changes are tracked
All changes are monitored by the system for unsaved changes warning.
Managing Blog Images
Banner/Hero Image
The banner image appears at the top of the blog post.
If No Image Exists:
- "No Blog Image" message displays
- Upload component appears
- File upload interface provided
- Select image from computer
- Upload to set as banner image
If Image Exists:
- Image displays across top of page
- Blog title overlays image with gradient
- Professional, eye-catching presentation
- To change image, may need to upload new one
Image Best Practices:
- Minimum resolution: 1920x1080 pixels
- Aspect ratio: 16:9 recommended
- File formats: JPG, PNG
- Relevant to blog topic
- High quality, professional photography
- Avoid text-heavy images
Publishing and Unpublishing Blogs
Publish Toggle Switch
Located at top right of blog details page.
Toggle Functionality:
- Switch ON (green): Blog is Published
- Switch OFF (gray): Blog is Unpublished
- Text label shows current status
Publishing a Blog:
- Open blog for editing
- Locate toggle switch at top right
- Click switch to turn ON
- Status changes to "Published"
- Blog is now live on website
- Visible to public visitors
Unpublishing a Blog:
- Open published blog for editing
- Locate toggle switch at top right
- Click switch to turn OFF
- Status changes to "Unpublished"
- Blog is removed from website
- No longer visible to public
Important Notes:
- Publish toggle saves automatically
- Changes status immediately
- Does NOT require clicking Save button
- Publish status is independent of other edits
- Can publish/unpublish without saving other changes
- Toggle change does NOT mark blog as dirty (unsaved)
When to Unpublish:
- Content needs updates or corrections
- Seasonal content no longer relevant
- Blog contains outdated information
- Temporarily removing for revisions
- Content policy issues
Previewing Blog Posts
Preview Function
Before publishing or to check formatting:
- Click the "Preview" button in right sidebar
- Blog opens in preview mode
- Shows how blog will appear to website visitors
- Verify all content displays correctly
- Check formatting, images, and layout
- Ensure no broken links or errors
What to Check in Preview:
- Title and sub title display correctly
- Banner image loads and looks good
- Content formatting is correct
- Paragraphs and spacing look right
- Lists and bullet points formatted properly
- Links work correctly
- Images display properly
- Mobile responsiveness (if preview supports)
Saving Blog Changes
Save Function
- Make edits to any blog fields
- Click the "Save" button in right sidebar
- All changes are saved to database
- Success confirmation may appear
- Blog updates in system
What Gets Saved:
- Title changes
- Sub Title changes
- Author changes
- Source changes
- Blog Content changes
- Image changes (if uploaded)
What Does NOT Need Saving:
- Publish toggle changes (auto-save)
Unsaved Changes Warning
The system tracks changes to blogs:
When Changes Are Made:
- System detects modifications to any field
- Changes are tracked automatically
- Blog is marked as "dirty" (unsaved)
Publish Toggle Exception:
- Toggle changes are auto-saved
- Toggle changes do NOT trigger dirty flag
- Can toggle publish status without unsaved warning
- Other changes still trigger warning
When Attempting to Leave Page:
- If unsaved changes exist, warning dialog appears
- Dialog title: "Unsaved changes"
- Message: "You have unsaved changes. Are you sure you want to leave?"
- Two options:
- "Yes, leave" (red button): Discards changes and navigates away
- "Stay" (blue button): Cancels navigation, remains on page
- Choose appropriately to avoid losing work
Best Practice: Save frequently while editing to avoid losing changes.
Common Blog Management Workflows
Creating and Publishing a New Blog Post
- Click "Create Blog"
- Enter Title: "Top 10 Safari Tips for First-Timers"
- Enter Sub Title: "Expert advice for an unforgettable African safari experience"
- Enter Author: "Sarah Thompson"
- Enter Source: "Marketing Team"
- Write full blog content in editor (800-1500 words recommended)
- Format content with headings, lists, bold text
- Click Submit
- Blog created as draft
- Click edit icon for new blog
- Upload banner image
- Preview blog to check formatting
- Click Save
- Toggle Publish switch to ON
- Blog is now live on website
Updating an Existing Published Blog
- Find blog in table
- Click edit icon
- Make necessary changes to content
- Preview changes
- Click Save

Taking a Blog Offline for Revisions
- Open published blog
- Toggle Publish switch to OFF
- Blog removed from website
- Make revisions to content
- Preview changes
- Click Save
- Toggle Publish switch back to ON
- Blog returns to website with updates
Seasonal Content Management
Before Season:
- Create seasonal blog (e.g., "Summer Travel Destinations")
- Upload relevant images
- Keep as draft until season starts
- Publish when season begins
After Season:
- Open blog for editing
- Toggle Publish to OFF

- Can republish next season or update and republish
